Millicent "Millie" Mae McKay

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Millicent "Millie" Mae McKay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Millie leaves behind her devoted husband of 68 years, Lester B. McKay, the love of her life and her partner in every adventure. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and countless treasured memories.  Born at Coleman PE on July 5, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Edwin A. and Freda P. (Lockhart) Coughlin.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by her beloved Lester of Pennfield NB; her children: Karen McKay of Pennfield NB, Corey McKay of Pennfield NB, Kathy Daley of Alberta, Paul McKay (Kim Stewart) of Pennfield NB and Lesley (Marc) Maillet of Moncton NB; her cherished grandchildren: Dorian Stetser (Emily), Britton Stetser (Kaliegh), Keaton McKay (Jen), Brian McKay, Katie McKay (Jessie), Lindi Daley, Corey Daley (Kelsi), Alyssa McKay, Joel McKay and Mathieu Maillet; great grandchildren: Landon Stetser, Rose Stetser, Walsh McKay, Grace Rusling, Lesley Rustling and Kylie McKay; her brother, Russell Coughlin (Ruby); sisters: Helen Dunbille of Charlottetown PE, Sylvia Coughlin (Charlie Ross) of Fredericton NB and Debbie Pineau (Marcel) of Charlottetown PE; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Brian Coughlin and her sisters: Jean Cornish and Frances Schurman.

Family was everything to Millie. Nothing made her happier than gathering everyone around her table, filling her home with laughter, good food, and lasting memories. She was an incredible cook who loved preparing meals for those she loved and found great joy in entertaining family and friends. Her home was always open, and everyone who visited was welcomed with warmth, a full plate, and a smile.

Kind, thoughtful, and generous, Millie was always ready to lend a helping hand. She would truly give the shirt off her back to help anyone, and her compassion touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Millie and Lester spent many wonderful years enjoying winters in Florida, where they made lifelong friendships and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life together. Millie loved to have fun, had a wonderful sense of humour. She was an Antiquer, a proud member of the Red Hat Society and, to many, was affectionately known as "The Blueberry Pie Lady," famous for the delicious pies she loved to bake and share. She had a fiery temper at times, and Lester always knew exactly how to make everything right again—with a kiss. It was just one of the many things that made their 68-year love story so special.

Millie’s greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely. She taught her family the importance of kindness, generosity, and always making room for one more at the table. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and in the love that will continue to live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Millie will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

In keeping with Millie’s wishes there will be no visiting or service. A celebration of Millie’s life will take place at the Magaguadavic Center, 11 J.O. Spinney Drive St. George NB on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 12 noon until 4:00 pm. In Millie’s memory, donations to Charlotte County Cancer or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
