Eugene "Gene" Robert McLanaghan

1950-2026

Eugene "Gene" Robert McLanaghan

Surrounded by his family the passing of Eugene "Gene" Robert McLanaghan, husband of Lois McLanaghan (nee Parks) occurred at his residence on Saturday, July 11, 2026 after a period of failing health. He was born on September 28, 1950 in Blacks Harbour to the late James and Bessie (nee Justason) McLanaghan. Gene was a heavy equipment and diesel mechanic working for Irving Equipment Ltd. for many years. He was also a member of International Union of Operating Engineers; IUOE Local 946. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and gardening; however, his passion was hunting and working with his tractor. Gene watched Nascar every chance he got, he was a huge Bill Elliott fan. He was also a member of the Pennfield Baptist Church (past Deacon) and a past member of the St. George Curling Club. Gene was well-known for his quit wit and dry sense of humour.

Besides his loving and devoted wife Lois, Gene is survived by brother, Norman McLanaghan (Cindy); sister-in-law, Inez Taylor; brother-in-law, Byron Parks (Anne); favorite nieces: Lisa Needle (Jim) and Melissa Saunders; special friends Kevin and Bonnie Shaw and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gene was predeceased by his parents; brother-in-law, Gene Taylor and sister-in-law, Marilyn Munn.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Vance Anderson and the nurses and staff of the Charlotte County Extra-Mural Program for their kindness and compassion.
