James Allen Thorne

1962-2025

James Allen Thorne

Unexpectedly however peacefully, James "Allen" Thorne passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday July 26th, 2025 surrounded by love and family. Born in Blacks Harbour NB on January 10th, 1962, he was a son of the late Darrell M. J. Thorne and Phyllis (Carr) Thorne. A loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Allen is survived by his children, Tammy Lynn Thorne of Nanaimo BC and Tim Leblanc of Nanaimo BC. Grandsons, Dominick Thorne and Dawson Thorne of Nanaimo BC. His sisters, Kimberley (Larry) Vance of St George NB, Tammy Voutt of Bethel NB, and Beverley (Jean Roch) Bernard of Montmagny QC. His Uncle, James Carr of Burlington ON. Adored by his many nieces and nephews and also by his countless treasured friends both near and far. Allen was predeceased by his parents, his brother Maurice Thorne, brother in law Sam Voutt, and also by the love of his life and mother of his children Barb "Barbie" Leblanc. Allen was a family man; he loved and adored his family and would do anything for them, especially his children and grandchildren.

Being a free spirit, a compassionate human, a generous man, and an adventure seeker, Allen had many friends of all walks of life. People gravitated to him as he had the softest approach and most exciting stories to tell. Allen was resilient; having had life throw him curve balls as a child after enduring a traumatic brain injury from an motor vehicle accident while riding his bicycle, and despite all odds he persevered and proceeded to live a life of independence. Allen beat to his own drum. He successfully thumbed his way from New Brunswick to British Columbia many times and because of this, Allen met and befriended a lot of people, making a lasting impression for many. Being the adventurous person he was, Allen was able to travel to many places throughout Canada, making memories and took in some of the most beautiful views that many could only dream of throughout their lifetime. He lived a simple life and he preferred it that way; never being enticed by the "finer things" but rather found his peace and happiness simply being with others, talking with animals, sitting alone in nature, and enjoying what life had to offer him- never having a bad life, just an occasional bad day. Allen was a hard worker and also a man who could pick a stick of tips faster than most anyone's seen. He was a compassionate friend and a gentle soul, never having a bad thing to say about another person. He had the biggest heart and would literally gift the shirt off his back if he felt another needed it more. He couldn’t and wouldn’t say no to helping out a friend in need no matter the task at hand and while never accepting anything in return- except maybe a smoke, a home-cooked meal, and some good conversation.

A special and heartfelt thank you to all those who have supported, helped, shown compassion, and provided dignity to Allen throughout his short 63 years of life. We recognize that there are numerous friends, professionals, and kind Samaritans who have come to his aid in one way or another that his family likely are not aware of. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for providing Allen with your time, your care, your empathy, and your kindness. Allen will be deeply and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
