Lloyd "Everett" Cooke

1968-2024

Lloyd "Everett" Cooke

It is with great sadness that the family of Everett Cooke announces his sudden passing at home in St. George on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, due to health complications.

Everett will be affectionately remembered by his loving partner, Kelly Winsor, sister, Catherine McBride Trafton (Gary) and nephew Evan McBride. He is also survived by Kelly’s children Michael Winsor (Jessica), Meranda Winsor (Nick Bell), Kiera Johnston, Landon Johnston (Jaiden Carpenter), special friends Grady and Ann Middleton, and chosen family, Erin and Colin Cleghorn. Everett will be deeply missed by his several aunts, uncles and cousins from across Canada, as well as all of the friends he’s made during his lifetime.

Everett was raised in St. George where he continued to live and participate heavily in his community. He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Carolyn (Stewart) Cooke.

After working with his father in aquaculture from his teenage years through to his 20s, Everett attended Memorial University in St John's for two years. He then took over managing a substantial cage site in Mascarene and raised fish into his 30s. Everett also studied electrical at NBCC in St Andrews, and later worked at Flakeboard in St Stephen, on deck on the Grand Manan ferry, and as wharfinger at the ferry landing in Blacks Harbour.

Everett enjoyed a full and adventurous life. He appreciated travel and enjoyed adventures throughout Europe, Canada and the USA. He especially loved Newfoundland, which felt like his second home. He had many memorable days of fishing and skiing together with family and friends in British Columbia, and he skied and spent time at his condo in North Conway, NH, hosting friends and family.

Everett was an avid dog lover who enjoyed fishing and bird hunting, especially with dogs and at Hanscombe's in Perth Andover. In his younger years, together with his father, he was heavily involved in scouting and attended world jamborees in both England and Alberta. He also enjoyed playing spirited games of rugby on the fields of Memorial University and golf on the courses in Florida.

Those who knew Everett will remember his commitment to St. George through his years on Town Council, his impressive smile, his happy and generous spirit and friendly, genuine greetings. He loved going for drives and meeting friends and family for lunch or breakfast out. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
