Anna Rae Dougherty

The passing of Anna Rae (Martin) Dougherty of St. Andrews NB, formerly of Deer Island NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB, on November 4, 2024. Born at Lubec ME on November 24, 1940, she was the daughter of the late R. Raye and G. Christine (Richardson) Martin.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she is survived by her daughters: Margaret (Glen) Worth and Marjorie (David) Townsend; her grandchildren: Heather (Cody), George (Kelsey), and David; one great-grandchild: Madden; her siblings: Wayne (Gail) Martin and David (Ruth) Martin; her uncle, Perry (Lotti) Richardson; her gang: Gloria Hurley, Sandra Beaumaster, Reid Atwater and all her friends in the neighborhood; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, George Dougherty and by her second husband, William Woodside.

Prior to her retirement, Anna worked for several companies including the Bank of Nova Scotia, Baxter Dairies, Stedmans, and finished her career as a care aid and nursing assistant at Passmaquoddy Lodge after 26 years of service. She was a proud Deer Islander and loved Deer Island and family history. Anna was known as a very strong-willed person who loved politics and she always let you know where you stood with her.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George. In keeping with Anna’s wishes there will be no visitation or service at this time. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring of 2025 at a time and place to be announced. In Anna’s memory donations to Charlotte County Cancer or a charity of the donor's choice will be greatly appreciated by the family.
