Melva Virginia Howard
1931-2024
The passing of Melva Virginia Howard occurred on October 11, 2024 while residing in Minnesota near her family. Melva was born in Back Bay, New Brunswick on June 26, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Muriel Leslie. A loving and devoted wife of the late Robert (Bobby) Howard for nearly 72 years, she is survived by her sons Brian R. Howard (Jolene) of Carlisle, PA and David E. Howard (Valerie) of Ham Lake, MN. Grandchildren are Braeden T. Howard (Amanda), Collin R. Howard (Jennifer) of Carlisle, PA, and Margaret (Maggie) Howard of St. Paul, MN, and Hannah H. Pratt (Ian) of Spring Hill, TN and 10 great grandchildren. (Cameron, Parker, Emerson, Connor, Dakota, Haley, Olive, Judah, Finneas, and Caraway.)
In addition to her parents and husband Bobby, Melva was preceded in death by her brother, Malcolm Leslie, sister Marie (Leslie) Achille, sister-in-law Faye Leslie- and many other family and friends who went before her.
Melva worked on the packing floor of Connors Brothers in Back Bay for 10 years before emigrating to the United States and settling in the state of Connecticut with her family in 1959. She worked for 30 years there as a devoted employee of the General Electric Co. making many friends and was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Bristol.
Melva and Bobby retired early and travelled the world together! In 1988, the couple returned to Canada to watch over her elderly parents and reconnect with family an friends. They toured Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and the U.S., took cruises, and loved their winters in Arizona. Even after a long illness began to take away her full mobility, they still travelled as much as possible and loved life together. They were regular members of St. George Baptist Church who’s congregation and pastor they loved dearly. Melva’s early faith in Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life and especially through her time of sickness and disability in the last 30+ years. In the final few years, she enjoyed the love and care of her children very much but Mom truly longed to be in God's presence and to finally hold the hand of her loving and caring traveling companion, Bobby, once again. Today she is whole and healthy, and dancing in heaven.
(Please note: We have thrown away her tired, old walker. She will have NO need of that awful thing ever, ever again!)
Arrangements have been made in the care of the St. George Funeral Home. A graveside service honoring both Melva (and Bobby) will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery on Tuesday, October 29th at approximately 2 pm. We welcome all that knew our mom and dad to join us and CELEBRATE her new life in Heaven.
