John Gordon Sellars
1953-2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Gordon Sellars at the Fundy Nursing Home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday, September 9th, 2024.
He leaves behind his three children Dianne (Joey) Craswell of Letang, Kevin Sellars and Laura Sellars both from Pennfield, as well as his one and only grandchild, Hayley Craswell. He is also survived by his brother Donnie (Colleen) Sellars, his sister Susan Sellars, nieces Jodi and Nikki, nephew Shawn, cousins and many in-laws. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Linda, his parents, Gordon and Marion Sellars, his brother-in-law, Barry Daley and his sister-in-law, Susan Sellars. He was born on June 30th, 1953 in Blacks Harbour.
After high school he met Linda on a cross Canada camping trip with friends. The two of them kept in touch and it wasn't too long before they tied the knot in Montreal. They chose to plant their roots in Pennfield and started a family together. They were married for 47 years.
John was a carpenter by trade, having spent many years at Point Lepreau before starting his own carpentry business. He could build or fix anything. He had worked on a lot of houses throughout his career and would always reminisce if he drove by one he had done work on. He retired at the age of 65.
Aside from work John was an avid hunter and fisher. He and Linda (plus the kids when they were younger) would take their travel trailer into the "backwoods" and spend the weekend fishing or exploring. In his earlier years he also spent a lot of time hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with friends.
He enjoyed talking and could always find someone to have a conversation with.
After the loss of his wife in 2022 (who he missed dearly) Alzheimer's Disease took hold of him pretty quickly, but no matter what, he still lit up when his kids came to visit him at the Home and especially so when his precious granddaughter was there.
Many thanks goes out to the staff at the Fundy Nursing Home
over the last year and a half. They treated him like family
during his stay there. Thanks also to the Home Care workers
who assisted him while he was still at home.
Arrangements are in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St George, NB. Visitation
will be on Thursday, September 12th from 6 - 8 pm at the St George
Funeral Home. A service will be held in the chapel there on Friday,
September 13th at 2 pm followed by an interment at the Pennfield Rural
Cemetery. In John's memory, donations to the
Alzheimer’s Society or Charlotte County Cancer would be
appreciated by the family.
