Hilda Cora Hanley

The passing of Hilda Cora (Matheson) Hanley occurred at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews NB on August 18, 2024 with her loving family at her side. Born in Back Bay NB on September 11, 1927, she was a daughter of the late George and Cora (Cook) Matheson.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Hilda is survived by her best friend and soul mate, her husband Ronald Hanley of St. Andrews NB; her children: Murvin (Peggy) Matheson of Back Bay NB, Bedford Matheson of Pennfield NB and Janice (Angus) Monks of L’Etang NB; five grandchildren: Robin Patrick Monks, Mark (Shelly) Matheson, Margie (Leroy) Nadeau, Anne (Grady) Middleton and Angela McLellan; five great-grandchildren: Rachel (Brandon) Shaw, Ben Nadeau, Alex Nadeau, Maykayla McLellan and Brad Middleton; three great-great-grandsons: Xavier, Deacon and Dawson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Hilda was predeceased by one great-grandson, Cameron Matheson; and by siblings: Fred Matheson, Ernie Matheson, Marguerite Hanley, Ermie Mitchell and Nellie Matheson. Hilda was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Prior to retirement, Hilda worked for over 50 years with Connors Brothers. When able, Hilda could be found running the roads with her husband, Ronnie and striking up conversations with those they met on the way. A true Christian woman, Hilda loved the Lord and was a long-time member of the Sea View Full Gospel Church in Back Bay. While we are sad to announce her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace with her Lord and Saviour.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Passamaquoddy Lodge for the kindness and compassion shown to both Hilda and Ronnie over these last few years. Your care and support never went unnoticed.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with Hilda’s wishes, there will be no visiting. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the St. George Rural Cemetery, St. George NB with Rev. Paul Legere officiating. In Hilda’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
