David Edison Haggerty
1938-2024
It is with great sadness that the family of David Edison Haggerty of New River Beach NB, announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 4, 2024. David was born in McAdam NB on November 28, 1938, to the late Edison and Muriel (Boone) Haggerty.
David was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his son, Chris (Laura) Haggerty of New River Beach NB; his daughter, Patti Haggerty (Kenny Dougan) of Blacks Harbour NB; one grandson, Jeffrey Whitenect of Moncton NB; one niece, Heather (Eric) Saulnier of Pocologan NB; and several cousins. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his sister, Dawn Glover, and brother-in-law Walter Glover.
In his early years, David held many jobs, including a Teacher, and Bank Teller, but settled into a long-term position in security at the Saint John Port Authority, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the Saint John Regional Hospital, from where he retired.
Throughout his life, David always was one to help whenever and wherever he could. He had been a volunteer with the St. John Ambulance, Lepreau Division, a Worden with Lepreau EMO, and an active member and Trustee of the Pocologan United Baptist Church.
In his later years, David enjoyed spending time at home, feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard, and watching the everchanging tides. He was never without a paperback novel in his back pocket, Westerns were his book of choice … next to Archie comics.
Known by his family and friends for his sense of humor, David always had a joke on standby and could often bring a smile to anyone’s face. Above all, he will always be remembered for his "black book" which contained over a thousand names and their genealogy stats. His sense of humor, impish grin, and devotion to his family and community will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
