Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Stevens

1933-2024

Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Stevens

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Stevens on June 23, 2024 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB. Born November 25, 1933 in Eastport ME, she was the daughter of the late Colby and Evelyn (Moore) Hooper. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Betty is survived by her sons Mark (Vicky) Stevens of McDougall Lake NB and John (Beth) Stevens of Canal NB; her daughters Evelyn Frost (Nathan) and Mary (Brittain) Boyd both of Canal NB; eight grandchildren April, Sarah, Dan, Josh, Jessie, Brittany, Daniel and Matthew; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother Brian (Lorna) Hooper; one sister-in-law Wilma Hooper and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William "Bill" Stevens; grandson William "Bill" Stevens and brothers Colby Hooper Jr. and Brenton Hooper.

Although Betty was born in Eastport, Maine she grew up on Campobello Island until her marriage when she moved to Canal, New Brunswick. Betty worked for a few years at Connors Bros., the shrimp factory and a little bit at the tuna plant, but mostly she was a homemaker and raised her family. She raked blueberries in the summer and made wreathes in the fall. One of her greatest roles was babysitter to all her grandchildren and even one great-grandchild. She was affectionately known as "Nanny" and "Old Nanny" to them all.

Betty was an avid knitter of socks and mittens. She made quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing word searches and watching game shows on television. Most importantly she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and she enjoyed reading His word. She was a true prayer warrior and faithful servant. She will be greatly missed by all her family, but we will treasure our memories until we meet again.
