William "Billy" Hazen Murray

The passing of William "Billy" Hazen Murray, husband of Joanne (Hawkins) Murray of Caithness NB occurred peacefully at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews NB on November 27, 2023 with his family by his side. Born in Blacks Harbour NB on September 27, 1949, he was a son of the late Manford and Lillian (McCumber) Murray.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife, Joanne, Billy is survived by his two sons: Christopher Murray and Kevin Murray (Crystal Sharpe) both of Caithness NB; his grandsons: Alexander Johnston, Dexter Sellars and Peyten Green; siblings: Margaret (Tom) Emery of Saint John NB, Patsy (Joey) Scammell of Caithness NB, Kenny (Rhonda) Murray of Upper L’Etang NB, Robert Murray of Caithness NB and Brenda (Greg) Boone also of Caithness NB; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Billy was predeceased by one sister: L. Kaye Murray.

Prior to retirement, Billy was employed with Connors Brothers in Blacks Harbour for 43 years where he worked as a forklift operator and truck driver. A well-known fixture in Caithness, when driving down the Mascarene Road, one always got a wave hello from Billy standing on his deck. When not home, Billy could often be found hauling wood from the woodlot up on the hill. His friendly waves will be sadly missed by many in the local area.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with Billy’s wishes, there will be no visiting. A graveside service will take place at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery, Pennfield NB on Saturday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mary Anne Langmaid officiating. In Billy’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
