Melva Jean Parker
1945-2023

The passing of Melva Jean (Hanley) Parker, wife of the late Glendon Clarance Parker of Back Bay NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 26, 2023. Born in Blacks Harbour NB on April 10, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Fredrick and Bessie Hanley.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Melva is survived by her children: Tony Parker of Back Bay NB, Maryann (Paul) Cormier of Bouctouche NB, Clarence (Susan) Parker of Limekiln NB and Mike Dejong of Peterborough ON; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren: brothers: Fred Hanley Jr., Ernest Hanley and Larry (Carole) Hanley all of Back Bay NB and Rev. Vincent (Mary) Hanley of Pictou NS; sisters: Linda Barwell, Josephine (Wesley) Patterson and Dora McCurdy all of Back Bay NB, Iona Thompson of St. George NB and Leona (Burton) MacDonald of Kouchibouguac NB; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Melva was predeceased by one son: Norman Parker; and by siblings: Donald Hanley, Judy Hanley and Geraldine Patterson.
Prior to retirement, Melva worked for Connors Brothers in Back Bay for many years. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and especially feeding and watching the birds. Melva was a devoted member of the Sea View Full Gospel Church in Back Bay and loved to attend Bible Study and Ladies Group every week when able. She truly had a giving heart and was known to regularly donate to the local food bank and other charities without thought. Her love and selflessness will be truly missed by her family.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The service will be held at the church on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Randy Crozier officiating followed by the interment in the Back Bay Community Cemetery. In Melva’s memory, donations to Charlotte County Cancer would be appreciated by the family.
