John "Louis" Godin

The passing of John "Louis" Godin, partner of Rejeanne "Anne" Poitras of St. Stephen NB, formerly of Blacks Harbour NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on May 10, 2023. Born in Saint-Jacques NB on August 3, 1939, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Gauvin) Godin. A loving partner, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his partner, Anne, Louis is survived by his daughter: Carol Ann Comeau of Blacks Harbour NB; his step-children: Steve (Debbie) Poitras of Norton NB, Tina (David) Cleveland of Quispamsis NB and Carol Melanson of Grand Manan NB; granddaughter: Amy Comeau (Shawn); step-grandchildren: Cody Campbell and Chelsey Campbell (Max); great-grandchildren: Brandon (Sarah), Kathleen and Sophie; great-great-grandson: Elijah; one brother: Medrick Godin (Irma); and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Louis was predeceased by his wife: Elizabeth (Breau) Godin; and by sisters: Pauline Blanchard and Janet Blanchard.

Prior to retirement, Louis worked for Connors Brothers in Blacks Harbour where he was employed as both a Supervisor and then as a Plant Manager. Louis loved music, both singing and playing and even dabbled in recording. He was a true family man who loved spending his free time with his family, especially his grandchildren. When able, you could often find Louis playing on his tractor. His love and devotion to his family will be truly missed.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with Louis’ wishes, there will be no visiting. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Stella Maris Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Saturday with Father Roland Suplido officiating followed by the interment in the parish cemetery. In Louis’ memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
