Martha "Joy" Bass
1965-2023
Martha "Joy" Bass passed away suddenly at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on April 11, 2023.
Joy grew up in North Head and after graduation she attended Atlantic Baptist College. She then went on to study Early Childhood Education. Joy began her career by teaching kindergarten on Grand Manan and then moved to Saint John where she worked in Day Care and then as an Educational Assistant. She was highly regarded for her work and dedication. She actively enjoyed life and loved coming to her home on Grand Manan. She loved nature and greatly valued her family and friendships. Joy had a solid relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ. Joy’s career was cut short by the devastating diagnosis of Fronto-temporal Dementia.
Joy is survived by her sisters Anne Bass of Grand Manan and Mary (Tom) Baker of PEI, brother Steven (Heather) Bass and twin brother Nathan (Karen) Bass and sister-in-law, Judy Bass all of Grand Manan as well as 11 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents William (Bill) and Ruth Bass her brother David Bass and nephew Eli Steven Bass.
Joy’s family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the respectful and compassionate care given to her by the staff of the Grand Manan Nursing Home during her stay with them.
Visitation will take place from 11am-1230pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 with a service to celebrate Joy’s life at 1pm with a private committal to follow. Both visitation and the service will take place at the North Head Baptist Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Grand Manan Nursing Home Foundation, Operation Smile or the organization of the donor’s choice.
