Betty-Jean Virginia Greene

The death of Betty-Jean Virginia Greene, wife of the late James Edwin Greene occurred at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on November 7, 2022. Born in Blacks Harbour NB on March 22, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Judson A. and Leona G. Green. A loving mother, grandmother and step-sister, she is survived by her children: Kendall (Theresa) Green of Saint John NB, Heather Green, Shelly (Behn) Mullen and Barry Green (Kathy McLaughlin) all of Grand Manan NB; one step-son: Timothy Greene; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; step-brother: Leroy Markee (Patty Cook) of Grand Manan NB; step-sister: Donna (Allison) Tatton of Alberta; special nieces: Karen (Calvin) Smith of Grand Manan NB and Corinne Dakin of St. George NB; a special nephew: Wade (Tina) Dakin of Grand Manan NB; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Betty-Jean was predeceased by her first husband; Erling Green; her second husband: James Greene; her sister: Rose Marie Dakin; and by her step-sister: Amanda Lively.

Prior to her retirement, Betty-Jean worked for various employers on the island in both the fishing and hospitality industry. In 1988 she went to work for Canada Post as a Post Mistress where she stayed until her retirement. During this time, she met many people and it was a job she truly loved. She was a lover of the outdoors who enjoyed gardening as well as knitting in her spare time. Betty-Jean was also an animal lover who had a fondness for cats. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends and her love and devotion to them all will be greatly missed.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at St. Paul's Church, Grand Harbour NB with visiting on Saturday from 6-8 pm. The service will be held from the church on Sunday at 12:30 pm with Rev. Jim Crighton officiating followed by the interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery. In Betty-Jean's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
