George Whitfield Kernighan

The passing of George Whitfield Kernighan of St. George NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on April 25, 2022. Born in St. George NB on August 31, 1951, he was a son of the late George Sr. and Florence (Steen) Kernighan. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, George is survived by one daughter: Mary Beth Kernighan of St. George NB; his grandchildren: Quintin Leavitt (Jenna Maillet) of Blacks Harbour NB, Natalie (Chris) Goguen, Tristin Cooke and Savannah Kernighan all of St. George NB; seven great-grandchildren; one brother: Michael (Rhoda) Kernighan of Back Bay NB; sisters: Anna (Clyde) Thorne of Canal NB, Jessie Kernighan of Breadabane NB, Donna (Peter) Justason of Pennfield NB, Susan (Andre) Savoie of Bethel NB and Sarah (Wayne) Baker of Ontario; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his wife: Lorena (Hooper) Kernighan; two daughters: Tabatha and Florence; one brother: James Kernighan.

Prior to his illness George worked many years with Connors Brothers. He was a man of simple pleasures who enjoyed coloring, watching old western movies and spending time with his grandchildren.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm from the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating followed by the interment in the St. George Rural Cemetery. In George's memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or to Charlotte County Cancer would be appreciated by the family.
