1938-2022

Joan Olive Beatrice Justason

The passing of Joan Olive Beatrice (Bennett) Justason, wife of Sheldon L. Justason of Pennfield NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on April 18, 2022. Born in Pennfield NB on November 17, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Basil and Jessie (Armstrong) Bennett. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister, in addition to her husband of 63 years, Sheldon, Joan is survived by her daughters: Judy (Doug) Gaudett and Kelly (Gene) Chase both of St. George NB; her granddaughters: Kate (Jason) McGrattan of St. George NB, Kelsey (Murray) Tucker of Pennfield NB and Jazmin Chase of Campbellton NB; her gorgeous great-grandbabies: Francesca (Noah), Ariana, Lachlan, Kamden, Grace and Olivia; her beloved great-great-granddaughter: Wren; one sister: Barbara Hatt of St. George NB; one brother: Mervin (Cathy) Bennett of Stratford ON; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her granddaughter: Ashton Chase; and her sisters: Julia Ann Bennett and Connie Hatt.

Joan worked most of her years at the Strand Restaurant in Blacks Harbour as both waitress and cook. She was known for her delicious pies. She made friendships there that lasted a lifetime. She then worked at the Can Shop for Connors Brothers, where she also made lasting friendships. She is a member of their lunch club to this day. She was a member of Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield, she so loved her little church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, holding an office for many years.

Joan's greatest love was her children and grandchildren and her little dog, Rosie. Her greatest passion was to make sure they had everything they needed in life and to keep them well fed. Her love for the holidays, Christmas and Easter especially will live on in her family.

She will be missed in her community for her big heart and missed immensely by the family she leaves behind, especially her husband of 63 years who took such great care of her with so much love and compassion.
