M. Regina Barnaby

Regina Barnaby, the great-granddaughter of Peter Barnaby from Big Hole Tract and Mary Sam of Big Cove was the grand-daughter of Bridget Ward (Barnaby), and daughter to Florine Sans (Barnaby) passed February 25th, 2022.

A traveller throughout her life Regina wasborn in New Castle raised in Natoaganeg and moved throughout Wabanaki territory including St. Stephen, Maine and Massachusetts. Mom, migitju, soogi, Gina was a survivor of Day School whose resilience shown through in her humour - always first to get one up on someone, pull a joke, or your hair this was her way of love and life.

Survived by her first-born son Joseph Barnaby, and last born Leonard Alexander (wife Jody Simon Alexander), her eldest Daughter Wendy Alexander and her youngest daughter Shelia Alexander; her six grandchildren Nicole Vicaire and Bradley Vicaire, Shyanne Marie and Collin Alexander, Kaelyn Simon, and Hunter Alexander; great-grandchild Karson Simon; brothers Mark Sans, Tommy Sans, and Peter Sans; sisters Allison Sans and Vickie W. Sans; and many loved cousins, aunties and uncles.

Predeceased by her sister Delores W. Sans (Brackett).

At this time no funeral or memorial service is immediately planned rather a sacred fire has been burned to guide and accompany Regina safely on her next journey. Family and friends are invited to travel home to gather on Natoaganeg this summer and will be notified in the near future when a celebration is planned to bring us together in remembering Regina as the resilient matriarch she was. In lieu of flowers, donations may be forwarded to the Indian Residential School Survivor Society or Under One Sky Indigenous Friendship Centre on behalf of Regina and her story. Msit No‘kmaq.
