Josephine Anne Corning

Josephine (Jidge) Corning (Gillmor) passed peacefully at the Campobello Lodge Nursing Home, Welshpool, NB, on Friday January 14, 2022. She was born February 6, 1931 in Bonny River, daughter of the late Arthur Stillman and Sarah Maude (Beach) Gillmor.

She is survived by two sons, Gene Corning of Elmsville, NB and Ross (Karen) Corning of St. George, NB and daughter Louise (Stanley) McGrattan of St. George, NB. Three grandsons, Paul Corning (Jessica) of Seeleys Cove, NB, Josh Corning (Amanda) of Elmsville, NB and John Quigley of St.George, NB. Two granddaughters, Tabatha Barker (James) of St. George, NB and Ashley Corning (Kyle) of Pocologan, NB.  Several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Josephine was predeceased by brother Arthur Gillmor, sister Catherine and daughter in-law Joan.

Josephine taught as a local school teacher for many years and was widely known in the community. Beginning her career in a one room school in Lepreau, she then moved to Elmsville and taught for several years on Pleasant Ridge. She finished her teaching career retiring from St. George Elementary School in 1996.

The family would like to thank the staff at Campobello Lodge Nursing Home for their warmth, empathy, compassion, and outstanding care.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with Josephine’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A grave side service will be held at the Second Falls Baptist Cemetery later this year. In her memory, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of NB or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
