Joseph "Joe" Eugene Higgins

1938-2015

Joseph "Joe" Eugene Higgins
It is with great sadness, the family of Joseph Eugene Higgins, 1938-2015, announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 28, 2015. Born at St. Stephen NB on August 5, 1938 he was a son of the late James and Marion (Richardson) Higgins.

Joe is survived by his wife Mary Evangeline (Legacy), Children Susan Hall (Roswell), Maggie Hanley, Cathy McKinley (Danny), Jim Higgins (Marci), Marilyn Blanchard (Rickey), and Aldena Higgins-Harris (Dennis), Grandchildren Tammy, Patti, Bryan, Aimee, Joel, Joey, and Dawna; Great Grandchildren Dustin, Zack, Tori, Makayla, Sarah, Karma, Brooklynn, and Kain; one Brother Stephen (Carol), and many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents James and Marion (Richardson), Joseph is predeceased by siblings Walter, Aldena, Les, Bernard, Richard, and son-in-law Farren Hanley.

Joe knew from an early age what his career path would be. His love for numbers resulted in him starting his career at the Bank of Nova Scotia and then onto Connors Brother Limited where he spent 38 years as Paymaster. He often said the best part of the job was the people he worked with and meeting the many employees on his visits through the factories. He enjoyed being outside taking long walks through his property, clearing woodland, gardening, or checking on his blueberries. Each year he could hardly wait for the berries, with his son at his side. Even though work took most of his time he would always find time for his family. He was also involved in church activities at Christ Church Pennfield, early on as Sunday school superintendent, a church warden, Treasurer and a choir member. He did a term as a member of a Board of Directors for the Fundy Health Center. During his spare time, he was active in the Pennfield Volunteer Fire Department as one of the original members, a level II fire fighter, a Fire Marshall, and also took on the role of Treasurer. He enjoyed the sport of curling as well and socializing at the Brunswick Curling Club in which he was a lifetime honorary member and the Club Treasurer.

A special thank you to Extra-Mural support from Sheri and the staff on the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Also, a huge thank you to the many family and friends who visited and showed support in the last six months; all of this support truly meant a lot to the family.
