Unexpectedly at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB in the
evening of January 21, 2012, Mr. Ralph A. Magowan husband of Mrs.
Burla A. (Justason) Magowan of Beaver Harbour NB passed away. Born at
St. George NB on September 10, 1920 he was a son of the late Hazen and
Olive (Mitchell) Magowan. A loving husband, father and grandfather in
addition to his loving wife of 64 years, Burla, he is survived by his
daughter, Allegra Badiali (Magowan); three grandchildren: Eric
Badiali, Robert Badiali and Mary Magowan and by one great grandchild,
Bryce Green. Ralph was predeceased by one son, Hazen Magowan.
Ralph was born and raised in St. George NB and spent a great deal of
time with relatives in Campobello NB. He was the valedictorian of his
high school graduation class and received the Lord Beaverbrook
Scholarship. He attended UNB in Fredericton but changed directions and
joined the Army to serve 6 years overseas in WWII. He returned to
complete his B.S. degree, followed by further education at the
University of Toronto. After retirement, Ralph volunteered at
Vocational Plus, reading for the blind and helped at Fundy Nursing
Home. Ralph enjoyed stating his opinions in regular articles written
in the St. Croix Courier. His great loves were books, music and
singing. He loved his church and hated to miss services. He enjoyed
sitting with his wife at their Lake Utopia Cottage, admiring the
surroundings. He always welcomed a great conversation and
Ralph’s laugh could be heard around the world. He will always be
remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26
Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Thursday from 7-9 pm.
The service will be held from the Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield
NB on Friday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating. The
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 and #40 will be holding a Legion
Tribute Service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 pm. In lieu of
