Charles Melvin Neathway

Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 21, 2010, Mr. Charles Melvin Neathway, husband of Mrs. Eunice M. (Mahar) Neathway of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Pennfield NB on December 26, 1920, he was the son of the late William A. and Jennie Belle (Bryant) Neathway. A loving husband, father and grandfather, in addition to his wife Eunice, he is survived by five sons; Charles (Mary) Neathway of Vavenby BC, Ronnie (Laurie) Neathway of Bethel NB, Jeff Neathway of Kamloops BC, David Neathway (Marilyn Hawkins) of L’Etang NB and Philip (Jeannie) Neathway of Miramachi NB, three daughters; Mary (Charles) Giddens of St. Stephen NB, Margaret (Bryan) Butler of Chatham NB and Judy (Teddy) Vail of St. George NB, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two grandchildren, David Butler and Charles Giddens Jr and by two great grandchildren; Kaylum and Jacob.

Prior to his retirement, Charles worked for Connors Bros. in Blacks Harbour NB for over 40 years as a Foreman and Sealing Machine Technician. He enjoyed woodworking, painting and doing small engine repairs for his friends and neighbours. Charles was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas from 1939 until 1945 as a Gunner with the 105th Anti-Tank Battalion of the 8th Hussars, seeing action in North Africa, Italy, Holland, France and England. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40, Blacks Harbour. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Wednesday at 2 pm followed by the interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home will take place on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 pm. In Charles’ memory, donations to the NB Kidney Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
