Douglas Edward Hoyt

The passing of Douglas Edward Hoyt, beloved husband of Patricia (Palk) Hoyt occurred at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John NB on February 25, 2024, following a brief illness. Born at L’Etete NB on September 2, 1942, he was a son of the late Edward V. and Frances (Andrews) Hoyt.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, he is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, his sons: Keith (Sherri) Hoyt of Pennfield NB and Daniel Hoyt (Leahanne Morrison) of Markdale ON, grandchildren: Kaylie (Devon) Spencer of AB, Keigan and Cole Hoyt of Pennfield NB, great grandchildren: Nash and Nora Spencer of AB, his sister; Sandra LeBlanc and brother Dale Hoyt SR. both of St. George NB, brothers in law: Charlie "Sonny" Palk, Kenny (Lindi) Palk, Sheldon (Charlotte) Palk and Ron (Diane) Palk as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his brother; Wade Hoyt, sister; Faye Verrier and her husband; Gaston, Mother and father in law; Darrell and Betty Palk and nephew; Dale Hoyt Jr. and special friend Evelyn.

Doug left L’Etete at the age of 17 to seek employment at Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry Dock and worked there until it’s closure. He then went to B F C Atlantic, and then to the Irving Refinery until his retirement at the age of 70. Doug was a man who enjoyed the simple life. He loved curling and was a longtime member of the St. George Curling Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially as out on the trails on his four wheeler. He also looked forward to Friday nights playing crib with his friend George. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who needed help.

Doug was a member of Local 213, a lifetime member of the St. George Curling Club and a member of the Pennfield Baptist Church, where he attended regularly until his recent declining health. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Bobby’s Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care given to Doug on his final days.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Service will be held from the Pennfield Baptist Church, Pennfield NB on Saturday at 4pm with Pastor Greg Card officiating. Visiting at the church will be on Saturday from 2 until service time. In Doug’s memory, donations to Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
