Bernard "B.J." James Russell Barrett Bernard "B.J." James Russell Barrett Bernard "B.J." James Russell Barrett

On Sunday, February 18, 2024, our hearts were shattered forever when B.J., surrounded by love, went to be with his brother. Left behind to grieve are his parents, Tommy and Janice (Shaw); his sister, Terri Leigh Hooper (Jamie); nephews, Jaycobb (Kahli) and Hunter (Jessica); extra special aunts, Janet, Penny and Brenda; and his dear friend Heather. Thanks for all the extra love and care you gave. He is now with his grandparents, Russell and Carmina Barrett and Floyd and June Shaw; his best friend and brother, Jeremy; aunt Peggy; uncle Murray; and cousins Candy Jill, Zackary and Kevin.

B.J. was always concerned about his friends, telling them to slow down, and in earlier years calling them on the phone. He had a special love for Eileen. We know that you don’t want any special thank you, but we are so thankful for the relationship that you guys had. You helped B.J. and us smile through the pain. You two will be buddies forever and ever.

B.J. was a gift from heaven we didn’t know we needed, but God did. You have made us better people by knowing you. B.J. taught us the meaning of unconditional love and humor. If you read John 9, you will see the purpose God has for these special people. B.J. you certainly fulfilled your purpose on earth. Remember, sometimes the worst thing you feel can happen, can turn into your greatest blessing.

B.J.’s dad was his hero. Whether they were fishing, hunting, going to darts, or just driving together. You could see the love in B.J.’s big blue eyes when he looked at his dad. No child could ask for a better father.

B.J. loved playing Bingo, music, the color Red, getting flyers, going shopping and enjoying Spa days. He also loved scallops, lobster, strawberry sundaes, Elvis, and his dog, Blue.

B.J. started his life with a negative report but he turned it into a positive, fulfilling his purpose and has graduated to greater things. We will see you again B.J., until then, remember you are so very loved.

As a family, we would like to give thanks to the Eastern Charlotte Extra Mural for their compassionate and loving care. Also, to our special newfoundland friends, Mike and Lucy and Martin and Sandra, your care and support never went unnoticed.
