Alice Marie Mealey

The passing of Alice Marie Mealey of Pennfield NB occurred at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John NB on January 26, 2024, with her family by her side. Born in Rogersville NB on October 24, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Adeline (Caissie) Vautour.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and companion, Alice is survived by her children: Gary (Sherri) Mealey and Valerie (Brian) Porter both of Pennfield NB and Mark (Daphne) Mealey of Fort McMurray AB; grandchildren: Pam Mealey, Stacie Porter and Shaun Porter; great-grandchildren: Tyler Mealey, Jenna Henderson (Gage Brown) and Natalie Anderson; great-great-grandchildren: Adalynn, Gabriel and Alice; her long time companion: Edgar Leavitt of Saint John NB; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by one son: Chris Mealey; and by siblings: Leo Vautour, Frank Vautour, Elvina Legere, Frances Belliveau, Gerard Vautour, Cleophas Vautour, Theodore Vautour and Pascal Vautour.

Prior to retirement, Alice worked for Connor’s Brothers in Blacks Harbour. She truly loved her family and enjoyed having them and friends over for coffee any time she could. Known as a wonderful cook and baker, she often baked homemade bread just so she could give it to her loved ones and many looked forward to family gatherings as her famous chocolate cake with boiled frosting would make an appearance. Alice was also a sports fan who loved most sports and could be found cheering on her teams, the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and more recently, the Sea Dogs. In her spare time, Alice enjoyed traveling, and not always with a destination in mind. She just loved being out on the road, usually with a Tim Horton’s coffee in hand. Her love and devotion to her family will always be remembered with love and she will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Eastern Charlotte Extra Mural, Charlotte County Hospital and Bobby’s Hospice for the kind and compassionate care shown to Alice and her family over the last little while. Your dedication never went unnoticed.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with Alice’s wishes, there will be no visiting. A private family graveside service will be held at the Stella Maris Catholic Cemetery, Blacks Harbour NB at a later date. In Alice’s memory, donations to Bobby’s Hospice or to Charlotte County Cancer would be appreciated by the family.
