Waunita Irene McGarrigle

The passing of Waunita Irene (Leavitt) McGarrigle, wife of the late Kenneth Charles McGarrigle of Blacks Harbour NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on January 22, 2020. Born in Bocabec NB on March 27, 1958, she was a daughter of the late Richmond and Violet (Merchant) Leavitt. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Waunita is survived by her daughters: Amanda (Trevor) Johnston and Shelby McGarrigle both of Blacks Harbour NB; one grandson: Gabriel Johnston of Blacks Harbour NB; one granddaughter: Sophia Johnston of Blacks Harbour NB; sisters: Francis Sinclair and Patricia (Bernard) Blanchard both of Bocabec NB; brothers: Keith (Amber) Leavitt of Old Ridge NB, Frankie Leavitt of St. Andrews NB, Arnold Leavitt of Chamcook NB and Perry (Carolyn) Leavitt of Oak Bay NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Waunita was predeceased by her brothers: Roger Leavitt, Wayne Leavitt and Aaron Leavitt.

Prior to illness, Waunita worked in several different fields but was last employed with Charlotte Shellfish in Lepreau. She enjoyed spending her days with her family, especially her grandchildren, and she looked forward to having them visit. In her quiet time, Waunita could be found playing games on the computer or just enjoying some peaceful time in the outdoors. Her love and devotion to her family will be sadly missed but always cherished by her loved ones.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the funeral home with visiting on Friday from 6-8 pm. The service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bill Lea officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association in Waunita's memory would be appreciated by the family.
