Melvin George Matheson
The passing of Melvin George Matheson, husband of Janet R. Fleet of Utopia NB occurred peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on December 30, 2019. Born in Bonny River NB on September 23, 1932, he was a son of the late George and Myrtle (Kinney) Matheson. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Melvin is survived by his wife: Janet Fleet of Utopia NB; children: Cindy Kallar (Bob) of Saint John NB, Trudy Borthwick (John) of Bonny River NB and Scott Matheson (Lisa) of Alberta; step-children: Kevin Fleet (Kim) of Ontario, Timothy Fleet and Jamie Fleet both of Utopia NB; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his first wife: Elizabeth Matheson; and his siblings: Kenneth Matheson, William Matheson, James Matheson, Bernice Thompson, Joan Taylor and Jean Campbell. Melvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Prior to retirement, Melvin worked with the Bridge Crew for the Department of Transportation. An avid outdoorsman, Melvin loved hunting, being out in the woods and was known to enjoy one or two bass tournaments in his day. He was a quiet man who enjoyed to be home in the company of his family and friends. When able, he often challenged his friends to a friendly game of darts. He was a member of the St. George Baptist Church and Melvin will be missed greatly by his loving family and many friends.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the St. George Baptist Church, St. George NB with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The service will be held from the church on Friday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jason Hooper officiating. The interment will take place in the Second Falls Baptist Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. George & Area Food Bank would be greatly appreciated by the family.
