He was very proud of his time in the service and spent many hours telling his children stories. In his younger years, Mel was a active father who made sure his children were never bored. He volunteered as a coach for their teams and he was known to have an amazing outdoor rink for all the local children to enjoy. A social man, he could strike up a conversation where ever he went. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours hunting or cutting wood. He liked to play a good game of washer toss and enjoyed making washer toss sets for his family and friends. In his spare time, he could be found tending his garden, doing his yard work or dancing in the kitchen with his beloved wife Theresa. Mel was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 in Blacks Harbour and his love and humour will be greatly missed by his family.
