It is with profound sadness that the family of Karen Marlene (Moses) Merrill, 76 of Blacks Harbour, NB announce her passing after a lengthy and valiant battle with Alzheimer's on Monday, October 28th, 2019. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Austin James Merrill and her brother-in-law David Stewart.

She was born in Blacks Harbour, NB to the late Harry and Jessie (Ingalls) Moses On February 15th, 1943. She was employed at the bank, at Connors Brothers and at Harbour Building supplies all in Blacks Harbour. With four school aged children she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse and enrolled at NBCC St. Andrews where she graduated at the top of her class from the Nursing Assistant program in 1981. Upon graduation, she worked at St. Joe’s, the Fundy Nursing Home and then for 9 and 1/2 years at the Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews until she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed walking, bird watching, working in her flower beds and spoiling her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She was a proud mother to her four children: Patty Merrill of Blacks Harbour, Shelly (Fred) Merrill-MacKillop of St. George, Wade Merrill of Blacks Harbour and Jason Merrill of Deer Island. She is survived by her big sister Janice Stewart of Pennfield, her younger brother Rudy (Barb) Moses of Grand Bay-Westfield, her brother-in-law Woody (Ellen) Merrill of St. George. She was the proud grandmother to Jessie (Jay) Golden of Back Bay, Frederick, Halle, Alice, Ty, Anna and great grand-daughter Mackenzie. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the funeral home with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held from Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield NB on Friday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Caleb officiating followed by the interment for both Karen and Austin in the parish cemetery. In Karen's memory, donations to the Alzheimer's Society, Charlotte County Cancer or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
