Patrick James Hanley

1951-2019

Patrick James Hanley
The passing of Patrick James Hanley, husband of Debbie Elizabeth (Simpson) Hanley of Back Bay NB occurred on January 19, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB with his family by his side. Born in Blacks Harbour NB on July 26, 1951, he was a son of the late Whitman and Thelma (McVicar) Hanley. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, in addition to his wife Debbie, Pat is survived by his children: Michael (Leona) Hanley of Grand Prairie AB, Jamie (Ruth) Hanley of Kitchener ON, Cory (Amanda) Hanley of Guelph ON and Amanda Hanley of Victoria BC; his cherished grandchildren: Nicole, Shayla, Isaac, Michael, Jonis, Ashlynn, Conner, Megan, Emily and Braden; one step-granddaughter: Felicity; a great-grandson on the way; his brother: Owen (Kim) Hanley of St. George NB; his sister: Iris (Wayne) Matheson also of St. George NB; one sister-in-law: Judy Hanley of St. Andrews NB; his favourite four legged friends: Kandy and Zoie; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins. In addition to his parents, Pat was predeceased by one brother: Dennis Hanley.

To know Pat was to love Pat. Married to Debbie in March of 1975, they quickly settled into family life together. Pat was a meat cutter for many years and then decided he would like to try truck driving. He started out in Nova Scotia driving lobsters to New York then moved to Ontario and drove truck hauling groceries to Toronto for Grant Transport for approximately 15 years. Then he and Debbie moved back east and resided in Sussex so they could be closer to their mothers in their later years. Finally, roughly 4 years ago they settled into Back Bay. Pat worked for three years for Jeremy Smith and last year worked in Ontario driving a gravel truck for Steed and Evans. During this time, Pat`s health started to deteriorate. With a diagnoses of Rheumatoid Arthritis, he spent both this past Christmas and New Years in hospital and then sadly got the news he had a brain tumor. He fought hard and went into surgery on January 4 but on January 19 he went home to be with the Lord. Pat gave his heart to the Lord in February of 2001 and was faithful to the day he passed. He was a member of the Sea View Full Gospel Church in Back Bay. Debbie and Pat were very much in love and best friends. They went and did everything together. She will miss him dearly and he will always be in her heart but the family as a whole can rejoice in knowing where Pat is and is no longer suffering. His sense of humor, smile and willingness to help his friends will truly be missed.
