Georgina "Georgie" Elizabeth Mealey

1926-2018

Georgina "Georgie" Elizabeth Mealey
The passing of Georgina Elizabeth (Enman) (Ward) Mealey, or “Georgie” as she was known, beloved wife of Charles W. Mealey, occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on November 15, 2018. Georgie was born at Higgins Road, Richmond, Prince Edward Island on October 23, 1926, the 12th child of the late William Seymour and Janie Alice Enman.

She was the last of 12 children, five brothers and six sisters, and the last of her immediate family. At the age of two, her family moved to Saint John, NB where Georgie grew up and attended various grade schools as well as junior high at Saint John High and then Modern Business College on Union Street. She worked in various offices before her first marriage in 1948 to the late L. Allan Ward of Pocologan, NB. She then moved to Gander Newfoundland where her husband worked for Trans Canada Airlines (T.C.A) and later Air Canada. He died in 1960 leaving her with three young children. She then moved to Pocologan with her children to be near relatives. She later married Charles W. Mealey of Pocolgan and they made their home there. Georgie loved the Lord and accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior at a young age and was a member of the former Germain Street Baptist Church. Upon moving to Pocologan, she transfered her membership to the Pocologan United Baptist Church where she held various offices in her younger years. She also loved gardening and, when able, worked out in their many flower beds. She also sang in many churches, both solos and in choirs, for many weddings and funerals. Another interest of Georgie's was history and she especially enjoyed writing about the Pocologan area, stories of her life and her children's lives since moving here. She was so proud of her book about Pocologan which was published in 2011. Georgie and Charlie lived in their home in Pocologan for over 50 years.

Georgie leaves, besides her loving husband Charlie, her daughter; J. Karen (Richard) Hawkins of Pennfield NB, sons: R. Brently "Brent" (Jo Ann) Ward of Morna NB and J. Glenn Ward of Blacks Harbour NB, two grandsons: Craig A. Ward of Musquash, NB and Kyle A. Ward of Hampstead NB as well as three great-grandsons: Alex J. Ward, Jaxon Ward and Cam Ward, also brother-in-law Kenneth Mealey and sister-in-law Alice McLane, both of Pocologan, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Resting at the Pocologan United Baptist Church from where visitation will be held Monday, November 19th , 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm, and from where the service will be held on Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating followed by interment at the Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery, 71 Route 175, Pennfield NB.
