Patrick Alistair McLaughlin
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on June 5, 2018, Mr. Patrick Alistair McLaughlin of Chamcook NB, beloved husband of Peggy (McBride) McLaughlin. Born at St. Stephen NB on December 7, 1936 he was a son of the late Col. P. Elmer and Marion E. (Crawford) McLaughlin.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his loving wife Peggy, his daughter; Susan (Tom) James of Bar Harbour ME., grandchildren; Tucker and Lily, his brother; Urban (the late Natalie) McLaughlin of Saskatoon SA, sisters; Sheila (the late Dr. Donald Higgins) of Saint John NB and Julie (Bill) Pascoe of Comox BC as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a niece Caroline Higgins.

Prior to his retirement Patrick worked as a manager for the Daily Gleaner Classified Department for a number of years, then he and his wife Peggy operated their own retail business. In his earlier years Patrick enjoyed running, especially marathons, having participated in the Boston Marathon in 1968. He also loved the outdoors, especially the water, whether canoeing or in his boat exploring Passamaquoddy Bay. He also loved his Friday morning computer classes at the St. Andrews Library and was also known as the "Chamcook Historian" at Hugh Bartletts workshop "where friends meet" as well as a member of the Spindrifters of St. Andrews. Patrick was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1942 Fredericton. Music was one of Patrick's passions, having been a former member of St. Dunstan's Choir in Fredericton and also the Voices of the Bay. He will be sadly missed by his family, community and all who knew him.

As requested there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, 212 Parr St. on Saturday at 11 am followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 8 located at 270 Queen. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. In Patrick's Memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
