It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Esther Mae (Matheson) (Curran) Patterson, wife of the late Merton Hilyard Patterson of L'Etang, NB. Our loss is heaven's gain on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB.

Esther was the eldest daughter of Kenneth and Diena (Cook) Matheson, born May 18, 1939 at home in Back Bay, NB.

She is survived by her children: Allen Curran and Gloria (Carl) Hanley; stepchildren: Lance (Sandra) Patterson and Melody (Bruce) Hanley; stepdaughter-in-law, Rose Patterson; grandchildren: Matthew, William, Hope and Andrew Curran, Chad (Krysta) Hanley, Tiffany Hanley, Philip (Paula) Patterson, Karen Patterson (Eric), Olivia (Darren) Whittier, Sean Patterson (Amanda) and Ryan Patterson; great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Rebecca, Adara and Payton Hanley, Brittany (Caleb) Patterson-Newman, Alexandria, Mackenzie, Victoria, Jarod and Tyler Patterson, Renay Barry-Hanley, Gavin Whittier, Zoe Bourgeois and Alexander Patterson; two great-great-grandsons; one sister: Betty (David) Seelye; brother-in-law: Vance (Germaine) Patterson; sister-in-law: Mary Matheson; special niece: Lottie Steen; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one grandson: Delton Hanley; great-granddaughter: Alexis Patterson; stepson: Wayne Patterson; sister: Marilyn Steen; brothers: Donald Matheson and Karl Matheson.

For many years of Esther's young life she work in the factory in Back Bay. She also delivered the mail for nearly 20 years, which she thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of the people along the mail route until her retirement in 1992. Merton and Esther enjoyed their little farm of cows, chickens and a horse and she also helped Merton with his wood working projects by drawings things out and painting them. Esther loved knitting, sewing and especially quilting. Over the last few years she enjoyed getting out of the house going sightseeing with her dears friends. She truly loved her family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at St. Mark's Anglican Church, St. George NB with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held at the church on Sunday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mary Ann Langmaid officiating and Pastor Randy Crozier assisting. Interment will be held in the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring. In Esther's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
