Born in Bonny River NB on June 11, 1922, she was a daughter of the late George and Myrtle (Kinney) Matheson. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Bernice is survived by two sons: Keith (Catherine) Thompson of Fredericton NB and George "Joey" (Elaine) Thompson of New River NB; two daughters: Gloria Thompson of Blacks Harbour NB and Faye Thompson (Richard Folkins) of Saint John NB; special chosen son: Aaron (Stacey) LeBlanc of St. Stephen NB; grandchildren: Ruth, Brian and Brent Thompson all of Fredericton, Julie (Jeremy) McPherson of Little Lepreau NB, Jordan (Shawndra) Thompson of Blacks Harbour, Dan McGrattan of Saint John NB and Joel McGrattan of Moncton NB; great-grandchildren: Marshall, Nolan and Bennett; one brother: Melvin Matheson (Janet Fleet) of Utopia NB; one sister: Joan Taylor of Bonny River NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was predeceased by a granddaughter: Louise Jane; three brothers: James, William and Kenneth; one sister: Jean Campbell.

Prior to retirement, Bernice had several jobs throughout the area beginning as a School Teacher. She then went to work for Connor's Bros. at the old Hotel in Blacks Harbour and then the Farm. She also worked as a seamstress for the old Connors Bros. Store out of her home for several years and many locals used her services as well. She finally finished her working career in the Labeling Room. Bernice was known as a mom and grandmother to everybody who came through her door. Over the years, she made many pairs of mittens and socks which she distributed to the Blacks Harbour School to keep little hands and feet warm. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and her community. She was a member of the Second Falls Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of the 2nd floor at Charlotte County Hospital and also the Fundy Nursing Home for the care and compassion they have shown, not only to our mother, but to us as well.
