Joan Katherine Burke

Unexpectedly at her residence on January 2, 2017, Joan Katherine (Furlong) Burke, wife of the late Robert Lawrence Burke of Pocologan NB. Born in North Renous NB on June 25, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Benny and Inez (Donovan) Furlong. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Joan is survived by two daughters: Diana (Bob) Ashley of Lepreau NB and Denise (Carl) Whittier of Rollingdam NB; three sons: Roy (Marie) Burke of Lepreau NB, Johnny (Theresa) Burke of Pennfield NB and Bobby (Sherry) Burke of Musquash NB; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; four brothers; eight sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Prior to retirement, Joan had once worked at the Clipper Ship Motel in Pocologan. Always keeping active, she enjoyed playing Bingo and shopping. Joan loved to dance, especially to country and fiddle music and she recently rang in the new year dancing up a storm with her many friends. She will always be missed and fondly remembered for her love of her family, her sense of humor and her "tell it like it is" demeanor.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the funeral home with visiting on Thursday from 2:00 - 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the St. Rose of Lima's Catholic Church, 541 Milford Road, Saint John NB on Friday at 12:00 Noon with Father Gerry White officiating. The interment will be held in St. Raphael’s Cemetery, Blackville NB at a later date. In Joan's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
