Walter Vernon Spear

At the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on November 16, 2016, Mr. Walter Vernon Spear, husband of the late Clara Mae (Wagg) Spear of Blacks Harbour NB.

Born at Seeley's Cove NB on December 15, 1920 he was a son of the late Frederick and Grace (Greer) Spear.

A loving father, grandfather, he is survived by: his son; Vernon (Colleen) Spear of Pennfield NB, his daughters; Sharon Hoyt of St. George NB, Lynda (Jim) McIntyre of Seeley's Cove NB and Patricia (John) Brown of Breadlebane NB, special granddaughter; Charlotte Kennedy of Rothsay NB as well as 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife Clara, infant son Richard, brother John and sister Mary. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Known to everyone as Poppy, Walter served in the Second World War and returned to his beloved Seeley's Cove where he took up fishing. He then moved to Blacks Harbour to work for Connors Brothers from 1946 - 1955. Walter also ran a successful taxi buisness for several years and later managed the Mari Milk Mart in Pennfield. He also weir and lobster fished and also found time to be responsible for maintenance for the federal building in Blacks Harbour. Walter also was a deacon at the Pennfield Baptist Church. He loved his antique car and his dogs Sam and Sailor. He was known for his pleasant' kind cheerful manner and his positive outlook on life. He passed away peacefully in his 96th year surrounded by his loving family. He will be missed by many.

Resting at the Pennfield Baptist Church from where the service will be held on Friday at 3PM with Rev. Reg Ward officiating followed by interment in the Christ Church (Anglican) Cemetery. Visiting at the church on Thursday from 3-8 PM. In Walters memory, donations to the Pennfield Baptist Church, Fundy Nursing Home or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
