Irene Gertrude Acton

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 12, 2016, Irene Gertrude (Canam) Acton of L'Etang NB. Born in Bath NB on January 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (Holmes) Canam. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt she is survived by two sons: Gerald Acton (Donna Maxwell) of Havelock NB and Philip (Sharon) Acton of Mount Uniacke NS; three daughters: Brenda Doucette of L'Etang NB, Sharon (Lou) Best of Thornlea NL and Trudie (Brian) Woytovich of Sequim WA; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; 25 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband: Gerald Acton Sr., son: Wayne Acton; daughter: Gloria Swanson Lank; granddaughter: Winnie Leslie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Prior to her retirement Irene was employed at Connor's Bros for several years before moving to Ontario where she worked as an Electronic Technician. She was an avid Bingo player and also enjoyed bird watching and knitting. She was a member of the LOBA Lodge # 471 for over 70 years as well as Crystal Chapter #36. She also loved music and used to play with the "Kitchen Cuties Band" from place to place.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. At Irene's request, there will be no visiting. A private burial will take place in Upper Kent NB at a later date. In Irene's memory, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
