David Arthur LeRoy McVicar

On, what I can only assume was a beautiful, crisp day, in the dead of winter, my father, David Arthur LeRoy McVicar, joined the adventure of life on February 15.1948. He was welcomed into this world by his parents, Arthur and Beatrice McVicar, in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick. An only child, he would not suffer this distinction for long. He was soon joined by Patti, Freddie, Gerri, Hughie, Debbie, Mary, Jackie, Bessie, and finally, Cindy.

Then, 22 years into this adventure, he met someone to share it with for the next 45 years, Elizabeth Mae Hunnewell. Apparently feeling this adventure was lacking a little...adventure, they brought David Arthur LeRoy McVicar Jr. into this world, and four years later, much to Jr’s chagrin, Shawn Patrick McVicar (that would be me). Still not satisfied, they welcomed into their family Robert Gaudet, Jason Gaudet, Tommy Moore, Jack Hill, Sam Henderson, and many other special children that needed a loving home for however long they needed.

Not content to merely live this adventure, my dad filled it to the brim with whatever he could find. He held many offices, including Grand Chancellor for the State of Maine, in the Knights of Pythias, was a member of the Dramatic Order of the Knights of Khorassan, became a Scout Leader (and, as a boy himself, earned the rank of Queen Scout, the Canadian equivalent of Eagle), acted as Lieutenant for the Alexander Volunteer Fire Dept., became a first responder and served as a member of the L.E.P.C., and was President of the Washington County Firemen’s Association.

Despite all of the people and experiences keeping him here, on July 12th, 2016, David Arthur LeRoy McVicar Sr. left us to join his parents, sister Cindy, and granddaughter Khristin McVicar, on a new adventure. In addition to his wife of 45 years, Beth, he will be sadly missed by two sons: David Jr. (Michelle) McVicar of Cooper ME and Shawn McVicar of Bangor ME; his grandchildren: Amethyst, Kyle, Kayla, Ashleigh and Willow; two great-grandchildren: Gabriel and Sophia; two brothers: Frederick McVicar (Bernice Vautour) of Blacks Harbour NB and Hugh McVicar of Tryon NB; six sisters: Patricia McVicar of L’Etang NB, Geri Johnston of Utopia NB, Debbie (Peter) Cormier of Blacks Harbour NB, Mary McVicar of L’Etang NB, Jackie (Russell) McVicar-Ferguson of St. George NB and Bessie McVicar of L’Etang NB; two uncles: Clayton (Agnes) McVicar of St. George NB and Bruce MacVicar of Middleton NS; one aunt: Rosalind McVicar of PEI and by many nieces, nephews and cousins and many, many, many friends, including lifelong friend Wes Anthony, who must continue this adventure, it is much less of an adventure without him in it.

For anyone who wishes to celebrate the life of this amazing human being, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 2:00 pm (Eastern) at the Alexander Elementary School, Alexander ME. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will also be celebrated from the St. George's Catholic Church, St. George, NB on Monday July 25 at 2:00 pm (Atlantic).
