At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on April 17, 2016, Neil Frederick McVicar, husband of Jean (Stairs) McVicar of St. George NB. Born in St. George NB on October 14, 1928, he was a son of the late John and Kathleen (Brown) McVicar. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by children: Brenda McVicar (Jeff Billings) of Fredericton NB, Greg McVicar (Henriette Hull) of Saint John NB and Danny McVicar (Heather Goss) of Red Rock NB; two grandchildren: Lindsay Cameron-Lee (Sean) and Darcy Cameron; two great-grandchildren: Finnegan and Rowan; brother: Clayton McVicar (Agnes) of St. George NB; sister: Rosalind McVicar of PEI and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Neil was predeceased by his brothers: Harold, Art and Ralph; his sisters: Marie, Marg, Inez and Marilyn.

Neil was a well respected member of the community of St. George. He worked tirelessly for more than 30 years for the town with his brother, Ralph. Together they maintained the infrastructure and spent many winter nights plowing the streets. He always took pride in providing quality work for his beloved hometown.

Neil was a devoted family man who loved and provided so well for his family. He was married to Jeannie, the love of his life, for over 60 years. They were an inseparable team and they built a wonderful life for their children. They loved their daily walks, their coffee runs and their shopping trips. Neil could always find things to do outside, whether it was splitting wood, mowing the lawn or washing the car. He loved a nice 6 cylinder automobile. He loved people and could always find someone to talk with.

Neil has left valuable life lessons for his family. He has taught us the value of hard work and taking pride in always doing your best. He has taught us the importance of honesty, friendliness and kindness to others. He has shown us how to make the most of each day and how to rebound from life's challenges with resiliency. He showed us what it means to be a decent person. He will be missed greatly by his loving family and everyone who knew him.

We would like to take the time to thank the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit who took such wonderful care of dad in his final days. You truly went above and beyond to make our dad and family comfortable and we will be forever grateful for your kind, compassionate care.
