1927-2016
At the Charlotte County Hospital,St. Stephen,NB on January 25,2016,
Stanley (Stan) Victor Leslie of Deer Island, NB. Born at Deer Island
on July 10, 1927, son of the late Osgood and Effie (Doughty) Leslie.
Stan is survived by daughters April Pendleton and Dawn Leslie;
grandchildren: Jessi Green (Colin), Ben Pendleton (Lori) and Gabriel
Leslie(Darby);great-grandchildren: Cora, Caleb, Katie, Grace, Jordyn,
Seth; Keiran, Sophie and Cliff J. Also survived by brothers Williard
Leslie (Elaine) and Roger Leslie (Peggy); sisters Ruth Lyons; Muriel
Estabrooks (Ron); Katherine Conley; & Ida Leslie. Stan was
predeceased by one grandson, Jamie Leavitt & by sisters Doris
Cogswell and Betty Heywood, brother Maxwell Leslie & son-in-law
Vance Pendleton. He leaves many nieces and nephews & specially
enjoyed frequent visits from nephew Wade Lyons & niece Shirley
Lord.
In a long, varied working life, Stan had been a weir fisherman (he always said the best pay was the sunrise view of the bay); pulpwood worker; truck driver; crane operator; mechanic; White Rose Gas station attendant; general electrician & plumber's helper; all round handyman. In recent years he had been the Fairhaven Cemetery caretaker & also looked after several cottages, forming close friendships with summer visitors to Deer Island. Stan enjoyed watching wildlife (especially eagles & osprey), reading Old West history and taking friends out for boat rides, but his first love was stock car racing. He did some racing in the 1950s around NB and was a regular camper at Speedway 660 in Geary, NB for many years.
Arrangements are in care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. A graveside interment service will be held at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery, Calder' s Head NB on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Maurice Hatfield officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Lord's Cove Church of Christ Sunday School Building, all are welcome to attend. In Stan's memory, donations to the Fairhaven Cemetery Fund or donor's choice would be welcomed.
