Burton Lester Matheson

Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on January 7, 2010, Mr. Burton Lester Matheson, loving husband of Mrs. Ruth E. (Tucker) Matheson of St. George NB. Born at Back Bay NB on July 8, 1939, he was a son of Mrs. Nellie (Leslie) Matheson and the late Gerald Matheson. A loving husband, son, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by his mother, Nellie Matheson of Blacks Harbour NB, one son, Lance (Peggy) Matheson of St. Stephen NB, two grandchildren; Scott (Sarah) Matheson and Kristyn Matheson both of St. Stephen, one great granddaughter, Rylee, three brothers, Gerald Jr. (Ethel) Matheson of New Zion NB, Garnett (Linda) Matheson of Back Bay NB and Brent (Brenda) Matheson of Canal NB, three sisters; Janet (Leo) Harmon of St. Andrews NB, Norma (Cyril) Hanley of Back Bay and Leona (Colin) Borthwick of Breadalbane NB, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burton was predeceased by one sister, Mary French.

Burton served 16 years with the Saint John City Police Force until his health forced him to retire. During his service in Saint John he rode Mounted Patrol in Rockwood Park. He was a member of the Gateway Cathedral, St. Stephen NB, and loved animals, especially dogs and horses and he had a passion for motorcycles.

Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting at the funeral home on Friday from 7-9 and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held from the Seaview Full Gospel Church in Back Bay NB on Sunday at 2PM. Interment will be in the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring. In Burton’s memory, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
